Eligibility

 

We are looking for 25 youth to join our first cohort. You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Are 18 to 25 years of age

  • Currently live in the Middle East

  • Come from a conflict-affected or vulnerable background

  • Are involved in tech in some way. For example, you studied computer science, engineering, or graphic design; interned at a start-up; or launched your own e-commerce business.

  • Have an advanced knowledge of English (speaking, reading, and writing)

  • Are motivated and excited to improve your leadership skills

All are encouraged to apply, especially women. We will strive for a 50:50 ratio of men and women to break down the gender divide.

Does the program cost anything?

No. The program is free for participants.

Where will this program take place?

The program will take place entirely online. Participants will need computer and Internet access.

Do I need any technical or design skills to participate?

No. While technical and design skills might help, you are not required to have technical or design skills prior to the program. That said, participants must be computer savvy—i.e., know how to use basic computer functions.

What is the time commitment?

Official programming will take place every Saturday and Sunday from July 10–August 1 for about 4 hours each day. Participants will also be expected to complete light readings, work on their projects, and meet with their teams throughout the week at their own convenience.

  • Weekend 1: July 10–11, 3PM–7PM GMT+3

  • Weekend 2: July 17–18, 3PM–7PM GMT+3

  • Weekend 3: July 24–25, 3PM–7PM GMT+3

  • Weekend 4: July 31, 3PM–8PM GMT+3; August 1, 3PM–5PM GMT+3

What if I can’t attend a session?

Attendance is mandatory for all sessions.

Will I receive anything?

Participants who complete the program will receive a signed digital certificate of completion.

What is the application process like?

Applicants will submit an initial application by May 21, 2021.

Shortlisted candidates who pass the first round will write a short essay on one of the following prompts:

  • What does leadership mean to you?

  • Think of a problem in your community and how you might use human-centered design to solve it.

Shortlisted candidates who pass the second round will submit a 3-minute video teaching something to their cohort.

Finally, shortlisted candidates who pass the third round will be invited for a virtual 20-minute interview.
